The best-selling commercial aircraft in aviation history. More 737s are in the air at any given moment than any other aircraft type.

History

The Boeing 737 was originally designed as a short-range, small-capacity airliner to complement the 707 and 727. It first flew in 1967 and has since evolved through nine major variants into the worlds best-selling commercial jet aircraft, with over 11,500 delivered. The 737 is the workhorse of airlines worldwide, carrying more passengers than any other aircraft type. At any given moment, approximately 1,200 737s are airborne. The type has been central to the low-cost carrier revolution, enabling airlines like Southwest and Ryanair to transform air travel into mass transportation.
