The most-produced aircraft in history, with over 44,000 built. The aircraft on which more pilots have learned to fly than any other.

History

The Cessna 172 Skyhawk first flew in 1955 and has been in continuous production, with brief interruptions, ever since. It is the most-produced aircraft of any kind in history, a testament to its reliability, simplicity, and forgiving flight characteristics. The 172 is the primary trainer for flight schools worldwide and has introduced millions of student pilots to aviation. In 1958, Robert Timm and John Cook kept a Cessna 172 aloft for 64 days, 22 hours, setting an endurance record that still stands. The Skyhawk represents general aviation at its most accessible and enduring.
