Consolidated B-24 Liberator

The most-produced American military aircraft in history with over 18,400 built. It served in every theater of WWII.
History
The Consolidated B-24 Liberator was the most-produced heavy bomber, the most-produced military aircraft, and the most-produced American aircraft of all time. Its high-aspect-ratio Davis wing gave it greater range and speed than the B-17, though crews found it less able to absorb battle damage. B-24s flew the famous low-level raid on the Ploesti oil refineries in Romania in 1943. They served in every theater of WWII in roles including heavy bombing, maritime patrol, cargo transport, and fuel delivery. Despite its numbers and contribution, it has always lived in the shadow of the more photogenic B-17.
